The Care UK team at Broadwater Lodge in Godalming has been recognised for the accolade as part of its commitment to delivering the best level of care to the 67 residents, many of whom who are living with dementia.
The awards are held annually and recognise the very best in dementia care across the sector, culminating in an awards ceremony on Thursday 3rd November. The purpose of the awards is to pay tribute to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding performance within their field of work.
The 40-strong team adopt a person-centred approach, and tailor care plans to resident’s individual needs. The team advocate activity-based care, and have introduced a variety of activities to help residents lead as independent lives as possible, as well as improving personal wellbeing.
The home has opened a pub exclusively for residents called the ‘The Stumbling Inn’, a salon and even a sweet shop to spark fond memories and create an enjoyable environment for residents. The team has also created a sensory garden, which features windmills, wind chimes and even chickens, to help those living with dementia lead fulfilled and active lives.
Angela Bookham, home manager at Broadwater Lodge, said: “We’re really honoured to have been shortlisted for Best Dementia Team at the National Dementia Care Awards.
“The team works really hard to deliver the best care for all residents in the home, but for those living with dementia, it is even more important to make their lives as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Residents are at the heart of what we do and we take great pride in the level of care we provide.
“We’re delighted to receive national recognition from the care sector for our work with dementia residents, and are hopeful that we can reach the finals and win the category.”
