Crewe care home team member wins national award

Home news

A local care home in Crewe is celebrating after team member, Sarah Evans, was recognised at a national awards ceremony.

Sarah, who has been the home manager at Station House care home on Victoria Avenue for five years, beat off stiff competition from colleagues in over 100 Care UK homes nationally to win the Outstanding Leadership award.

The Residential Care Services (RCS) Stars awards reward individual and team excellence across Care UK’s RCS division. As recognised in the recent CQC report, Sarah takes great pride in ensuring that excellent care is delivered at Station House, with her ‘open door’ policy providing residents, their relatives and colleagues the opportunity to talk with her at any time of the day.

The panel of judges found Sarah leads by example and encourages her team to develop their skills and knowledge to help them provide the best care they can. This has been demonstrated by a second success at the awards ceremony, with Rose Billington winning best Housekeeper of the Year.

Rose was nominated for always being willing to go the extra mile for residents, their family members and colleagues alike. She was also commended for her hard work in keeping the home maintained, getting involved in the activities at the home and outstanding efforts in fundraising for local charities.

Speaking about the award win, Sarah said: “I was shocked when I heard I was a finalist in the category, so winning came as an even bigger surprise. Putting others first and working closely as a team is what my role is all about, and I am honoured to have been given this accolade.”

Rose also commented: “After a great year at Station House, I was thrilled to have been named Housekeeper of the Year. Both Sarah and I can’t thank the wonderful Care UK team and residents at Station House enough for their continued support.”
