A number of community groups within the area put their heads together to come up with a list of names that have cultural references to them and the local area. These were then whittled down to the top five by the home manager at Skylark House, Devendra Lallchand.
The five suites of Horsham’s newest care home will be known as ‘Carfax’, after the central area of the town, ‘Arun’, which is the river that runs through the town, ‘Causeway’, one of Horsham’s oldest remaining streets, ‘Howard’ as Catherine Howard lived here in the 1500s, and ‘Milland’, after Ray Milland, the Hollywood actor who lived in the area.
These names were suggested by Horsham Rotary Club member Geoff Robinson. As a thank you for taking part, Care UK presented the Horsham Rotary Club with a cheque for £250 for all members to use for upcoming events and to purchase essential supplies.
Home manager, Devendra Lallchand, said: “As we welcome more residents to Skylark House, the naming of the suites within the care home is an important task. We thought this presented an excellent opportunity to work with the Horsham Rotary Club and to get to know our neighbours a little better.
“The choice of names suggested by the local community were all of a very high quality, and we’re really pleased with the chosen five names from Geoff – the residents are all delighted with them too and look forward to being part of a community within the home.”
Geoff Robinson added: “The Horsham Rotary Club were delighted to have been asked to help in naming the suites at Care UK’s new home and I’m thrilled that my suggested names have been selected to represent the individual communities within the home.”
