Broadwater Lodge was named as the Best Individual Care Home at the Care Home Awards, held in London on Thursday 25th June.
The Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation for UK care home management, operation and delivery.
Broadwater Lodge secured its second national award win this year thanks to the considered approach within the home, and the enthusiasm of its kind and caring team members. Judges were impressed with the innovation shown throughout the home by team members, as well as the home’s ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating.
Additionally, judges praised the many meaningful activities that take place at Broadwater Lodge, and the continuous development of the home. Most recently, the team created a ‘pet corner’, where relatives and team members can bring their pets in for residents to spend time with, and opened a pub within the home, The Stumbling Inn.
Similarly, after a resident expressed that she would like to keep chickens, the team members at the home helped build a chicken coup and bought four pet chickens, and residents now enjoy looking after their new feathered friends.
The home itself has been created to encourage residents to build relationships with others at the home. Each suite has its own lounge and dining area, helping to create a ‘community within a community’ feeling. Additionally, every resident at the home has an individual life history book which gives team members insight into their past and present life.
Angela Bookham, home manager at Broadwater Lodge, said: “We are completely thrilled to have scooped one of the most prestigious awards at this year’s Care Home Awards. Everyone here is so proud that Broadwater Lodge has been named Best Individual Care Home and this really is testament to the dedication of each individual team member.
“At Broadwater Lodge, we place great emphasis on individuals to ensure that everything they do or experience is meaningful and life enhancing for them, and we’re delighted that this has been recognised. The awards ceremony was a wonderful night and we look forward to celebrating this second national award win at the home with the residents and team members.”
