Team members at the Care UK home were aware that residents Vera Francis, Sherwood Grange’s oldest resident, and John Hodgson both have a keen interest in the royal family. After a group of residents expressed their interest in attending a royal event in London, the team at Sherwood Grange arranged for a special trip to attend The Major General's Review.
The event is held as one of many rehearsals ahead of the Trooping the Colour ceremony. Residents travelled to Buckingham Palace where they watched the procession, which includes over 1,400 officers and men on parade, take place. Throughout the day, the residents were also treated to a performance from over 400 musicians made up of ten bands and Corps of Drums as they marched.
Rick Mayne, home manager at Sherwood Grange, said: “At Sherwood Grange we are always looking for exciting events and activities that residents can take part in. As part of this, we launched our own wishing tree where residents can submit their wishes and we make them come true.
“The residents had a wonderful day at the ceremony and it was a treat to get to see the spectacular procession of guards and musicians first hand. The team at Sherwood Grange knew just how much the residents enjoy hearing about the royal family, so it was a great treat to be able to go and take part in a royal event.”
