The team at Cumberland welcomed the people of Mitcham to enjoy Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.
The team also hosted a fun-filled Commonwealth-inspired celebration where visitors took part in an ‘opening ceremony’.
Resident, Joan Bricknell, carried the ‘Commonwealth Baton’ to officially open the games, which was followed by weightlifting, volleyball, lounge bowls and shooting. Visitors and residents alike took part in the games, and everyone was presented with their own medal for taking part.
Tamba Lamina, home manager at Cumberland, said: “Hosting our own ‘mini-Commonwealth Games’ event was a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors of all ages to come together, join in activities and have a lot of fun – a great day was had by all!”
