Darlington Court celebrates Care Home Open Day with the help of four-legged friends

Home news

There was fun for all at Darlington Court when it invited the local community in for a day of celebrations, with the help of some furry friends.

The team at Darlington Court welcomed the people of Littlehampton to enjoy Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.

The team marked the occasion by throwing a Commonwealth-themed party. Darlington Court’s in-house chefs prepared a delicious Commonwealth-inspired buffet lunch for the visitors and residents to enjoy, which included Indian-style onion bhajis, mini samosas and coronation chicken. Friendly animals from Animal Magic paid a special visit to the home to mark the occasion, with exotic animals including a meerkat, wallaby and parrot, and residents and visitors were delighted to be able to get up close with them.

Julie Bartholomew, customer relations manager at Darlington Court, said: “We had a fantastic afternoon celebrating Care Home Open Day at Darlington Court. The residents all really enjoyed making homemade buntings to decorate the home, and it was lovely to see how much the residents enjoyed interacting with the animals.

“Care Home Open Day is all about building bridges with our local community, and showing what life in a care home is really like, so it was fantastic to see so many of our neighbours come along to celebrate. We would like to say a big thank you to the people of Littlehampton, for making the day so special.”
