Addington Heights wins approval of national care inspectors

Home news

A national care watchdog has given Addington Heights the seal of approval, with relatives and residents praising its caring and attentive team members.

The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Addington Heights an overall ‘good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.

The care home was rated ‘good’ in five out of five categories for safety, effectiveness, caring, having a well-led service, and responsiveness.

The report praised the team members for being kind and caring. The high praise that the team had received from residents’ families was also noted, with one relative saying, “The team are fantastic, professional, caring people.” Another relative added, “I truly believe the reason [their family member] has lived this long is because she feels loved and cared for by the team here. I am deeply grateful to them.”

The wide variety of activities taking place at the home was praised. From karaoke and music sessions, to creative arts and crafts afternoons, there are plenty of activities taking place at the home for residents to enjoy.

Residents are encouraged to take part in gentle exercise to keep active, and there are regular reminiscence sessions. For those looking to relax, residents are able to have hand massages and manicures.

The team ensure residents’ birthdays are marked with fun celebrations, and it was noted that the team had thrown a party for a resident’s 100th birthday, which many of the resident’s family and friends attended. The home had also been decorated for the celebration with photographs from throughout the resident’s life.

As well as group activities, residents are also encouraged to take part in their own hobbies, including outdoor activities, such as planting seeds in the home’s garden. The home’s idyllic grounds were praised for providing quiet spaces for residents to relax, where they can look out over rolling green fields. One resident commented, “It is truly wonderful. I love sitting here in this corner, looking out at the uninterrupted view. [It’s] beautiful and peaceful.”
