Ambleside remembers wartime Britain

Home news

Ambleside hosted an event to honour the anniversary of D-Day.

The care home turned back the clock and gave residents the opportunity to reminisce and share their memories of the momentous day.

Residents got up close to World War Two memorabilia including ration books, rifles, and clothing, which are part of private collections owned by Care UK team members.

Residents, including Ted Howell who was in the Royal Engineers during World War Two, were also treated to a patriotic afternoon tea, accompanied by live music from The Poppy Sisters – who encouraged residents to sing along to classic 40s hits.

Clare Mudge, home manager at Ambleside, said: “Here at Ambleside, what is important to residents is important to us. We know D-Day was a key moment in history for residents, and it was fitting to give this day the recognition it deserves. The singing and sharing of stories made for a day that way was thoroughly enjoyed by all residents as they got to remember such a significant moment in their lives.”
