Darlington Court helps town become dementia friendly

Home news

Darlington Court is helping to create a dementia-friendly community by hosting a ‘Dementia awareness’ session on Tuesday 11th September.

From 2pm-4pm, the local community can drop in to the home and learn about what it is like to live with dementia.

Karen Milligan, senior customer relations manager at neighbouring care home Bowes House, will be covering a number of topics such as understanding what dementia is and how memories are lost, and helping local people to understand what it might be like to live with dementia. She will also offer practical advice on how to overcome communication barriers and discovering positive approaches to living with dementia.

After the event there will be a Q&A session, and those who attend will also have the chance to meet the team at Darlington Court, as well as take a closer look at the care home.

Nikki Burke, home manager at Darlington Court, said: “At Darlington Court we have a commitment to encourage others to learn about dementia, as well as help the community turn their knowledge into action by making our community more aware of those living with dementia.

“We’re really happy to be part of the initiative and look forward to welcoming members of the Littlehampton community into our home to spread awareness of what it is like living with dementia.”

Visitors to the event will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s guide, ‘A helping hand’.
