Music-making sparks new friendships at Broadwater Lodge

Home news

Residents at Broadwater Lodge invited local parents and their toddlers to join them for an exciting interactive workshop of music and dance.

Residents welcomed the younger generation who joined them for a morning of singing and dancing in the garden with children’s music and movement group, Jo Jingles.

The music group stimulates the imagination of children using interactive renditions of favourite songs with the help of friendly puppet Jo, and the group incorporates fun educational activities to suit all ages.

The session was attended by twenty mothers and toddlers from the community, eager to try some hands-on musical fun and spend time chatting with the residents over a cup of tea in the home’s garden. Funds raised from the event will go towards the home’s new farm, which is due to open later this year.

Angela Bookham, home manager at Broadwater Lodge, said: “We were thrilled to be able to host the Jo Jingles music group, and delighted to welcome parents and children from our local community to join in the fun. The residents were overjoyed to see how excited the toddlers were with the musical activities, and loved spending time chatting with the parents.

“Meaningful activity is an essential part of the care we provide at Broadwater Lodge, and projects like these are a brilliant way of encouraging social interaction and reducing isolation. Intergenerational relationships have been proven to be beneficial to older people, and it was lovely to see the toddlers bringing a huge smile to the faces of the residents.

“The music session proved to be a success, and we’d like to thank Jo Jingles for visiting us and donating to the new farm. We look forward to welcoming parents and toddlers from the local community to our future sessions.”
