The residents and team at Sherwood Grange organised for residents to enjoy a four-day holiday, exploring the beautiful countryside of Dorset and stay with new-found friends at The Potteries.
Invited by the care home in Poole, the residents and team members were treated to a three-night stay at The Potteries, situated only three miles from Poole Harbour. During their stay, residents spent time with their new friends at The Potteries, exploring sights such as Bournemouth’s pier and promenade, Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens and Swannery, and Wimbourne Model Village.
The highlight of the holiday was a day trip to Poole Harbour where the residents travelled around on a Jurassic Coast boat cruise, taking in the many natural sights of the South coast, including the highly prestigious Sandbanks estates and beach, known as Millionaires Row, and wildlife haven Brownsea Island. Residents enjoyed sharing historical facts, and reminiscing about times spent on holiday.
The final evening was spent dining at the Greyhound pub, which has views over Corfe Castle. On departing Corfe, the residents bumped into a troop of Morris dancers who invited them to get their feet tapping and join in the dancing.
Rick Mayne, home manager at Sherwood Grange, said “The residents were over-the-moon to be invited to stay at The Potteries and spend time relaxing by the coast.
“Here at Sherwood Grange, we encourage residents to develop new relationships and try different experiences. With this in mind, we initiated the idea of a short holiday as an ideal way to do just this – following a conversation with team at The Potteries they whole heartedly agreed.
“The Sherwood Grange residents felt it would be wonderful to host a group from The Potteries to enable the Poole residents to experience the sights and sounds that London has to offer. Following the success of this visit, the residents were excited to be invited to have their own holiday in Poole and made a big point of saying hello to the Poole residents on their arrival – residents from both homes have truly made friends for life”.
“It was wonderful seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces when they returned from their holiday in Dorset and they are all still sharing memories from the trip. I would like to thank The Potteries’ residents and team for having us.”
