Now in its 20th year, the Residential Care Services (RCS) Stars awards recognise individual and team excellence at more than 100 care homes nationwide across Care UK’s RCS division.
Kate Smith, representing Britten Court, took home the prestigious title of Team Leader of the Year, one of 22 awards handed out during the evening.
The Team Leader Award is presented to a member of the team who embeds a person-centred approach and supports their colleagues to be the best they can be, delivering high quality care and supporting residents to lead fulfilling lives.
Kate was nominated for the RCS Stars award for her outstanding medical knowledge and professionalism. Ever the team player, she supports fellow colleagues and guides them for as long as they need. Most notably, her actions have been recognised by external professionals such as the CCG and regional pharmacists, who rated the medication process for Britten Court as number one out of 152 homes.
Speaking about the award win, Kate said: “It is a great privilege to receive the Team Leader Award. To be recognised alongside so many other amazing carers is a wonderful feeling, and I would like to congratulate everyone else who was nominated for an RCS Star award. It was a truly fantastic evening reflecting on what has been a great year, and celebrating the hard work each and every team puts in across the country.
“I would like to dedicate this award to my supportive team at Britten Court and the delightful residents who help make my job so enjoyable.”
Chloe Swarbrick, home manager, said: “The vital medication process at Britten Court is the best it has ever been, and we have Kate to thank for that. We are so proud of her for winning Team Leader of the Year in the national RCS Stars awards as it is so well-deserved. Kate is incredibly supportive and constantly goes out of her way to help others. She is an asset to Britten Court and we are so grateful for all she has done.”
