It’s all in the name: Manchester pupils lend a helping hand to Oakfield Croft

Home news

A local primary school has named the suites at a brand-new care home in Sale, Greater Manchester.

Pupils from St Mary’s Primary School took part in a competition to name the three suites at new care home, Oakfield Croft, in Sale.

The children put their heads together to come up with a list of names that have cultural or historical significance to them and the local area.

When the care home opens in winter 2019, the suites will be known as: the ‘Elm Suite,’ the ‘Cedar Suite,’ and the ‘Sycamore Suite’, which were inspired by a nature theme suggested by the local pupils.

Care UK has presented the school with £250 towards new play equipment to say thank you for the pupils’ hard work.

Daniel Cole, home manager at Oakfield Croft, said: “As we gear up to welcome the first residents to the home later this year, the all-important naming of the suites within the care home is a key consideration – and thispresented an excellent opportunity to work with St Mary’s Primary School.

“The ideas the pupils put forward were all of a very high standard, and we’re really pleased with the final names.”

Mr Hitchcock, headteacher at St Mary’s Primary School, added: “We were thrilled when Care UK asked to work with us on this exciting new venture here in Sale. The children had a great time researching the local area to help them come up with the three suite names.”

The naming of the suites follows another exciting development for Oakfield Croft; the welcoming of Daniel to the helm as the recently appointed home manager. He will lead the team at the new care home, having previously spent over twenty years working within the care sector.
