How to prevent slips and trips - Sidcup care home hosts free advice event

A care home in Sidcup is inviting local people to a free event where they can learn more about preventing falls among older people.

On Friday 15th November, from 2pm-4pm, Care UK’s Smyth Lodge, on Frognal Avenue, is welcoming an expert to give advice to the local community at its fall prevention and awareness event.

Joanna Ward, from JLinks Physiotherapy Ltd, will be visiting the home to provide expert guidance on preventing falls, reducing balance problems and maintaining independence. During the event there will be a chance to learn the common causes of slips and falls and discover ways of preventing them at home or in care, as well as advice and tips on activities and exercises that improve balance and reduce the risk of falls.

This event also provides members of the local community with the opportunity to meet the friendly team at Smyth Lodge and take a closer look at the care home, with complimentary refreshments provided.

Lorraine Eastmead, home manager at Smyth Lodge, said: “To prevent health issues that occasionally occur from accidental falls, it is very important to the team and to the wellbeing of the residents that we provide essential information on fall prevention. Here at Smyth Lodge, we strive to provide in-depth advice to people in the local community on topics relating to our work, and we are able to do just that with the help of a specially selected expert who will be speaking at this session.

“It is imperative that we create a safe environment for older people in the community, and ensure that family and friends have the correct information to prevent accidents.
