Cheadle residents invited to dementia myth-busting event

Home news

A care home in Cheadle is inviting the local community to its free ‘Dementia Mythbuster’ event for families and professionals caring for those living with dementia.

On Thursday 14th November from 2pm-3.30pm, the Care UK team at Abney Court, in Abney Hall Park, will welcome dementia champion, Jim Macleod from Care UK, who will be covering a number of topics that are commonly misunderstood about dementia.

There will be support and practical advice on what dementia is, as well as a helpful discussion around many of the topics which are commonly misunderstood, with questions including what causes dementia, is there a cure and what can I do to prevent it?

Jim will be on hand to discuss the help that is available to family members with a loved one living with dementia in the community.

At the event, there will be a chance to share experiences, meet the friendly team at Abney Court and take a closer look at the care home, which is built in the stunning, historic grounds of Abney Hall in Cheadle.

Helen Parry, home manager at Abney Court, said: “We know that it can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia. It’s natural to feel confused about the best way to help your loved one, so our event aims to offer professional knowledge and insight to those who need it – as well as providing a hub for shared experiences.

“We want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. We look forward to welcoming local people to the home for an inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

Abney Court has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.

Spaces are filling up fast so to book your place at this free event, call 0161 660 5713 or email customer relations manager, Pamela Wilson, customer relations manager on pamela.wilson@careuk.com
