Dream team at Godalming care home celebrates winning TWO top awards

Care UK’s Broadwater Lodge, on Summers Road, won the Maintenance Person of the Year award for maintenance manager, Shawn Lowmass, in the RCS Star Awards, and also took home the Registered Manager of the Year award for home manager Angela Bookham in the Surrey Care Awards.

The Residential Care Services (RCS) Stars awards recognise individual and team excellence at more than 120 care homes nationwide across Care UK, and the Surrey Care Awards recognise and celebrate the exceptional contributions made by individuals and teams within Surrey’s care workforce.

The RCS Awards recognised that since joining the home in 2015, Shawn has established himself as a hardworking, polite and willing team member where nothing is too much to ask. After a number of successful animal therapy visits at the home, Shawn was integral in creating Broadwater Lodge’s very own farm in 2018.

Home manager Angela won the top accolade at the Surrey Care Awards and was named Registered Manager of the Year. The judges commented that through her hard work, dedication, talent and creativity, Angela has led her team to create a home that sets the standard in person‐centred dementia care.

Angela Bookham, home manager at Broadwater Lodge, says: “We are so pleased to have won not one but two awards. The whole team works hard to ensure residents continue to lead active and fulfilling lives, none more so than Shawn, and I’m over the moon that he has been acknowledged for the wonderful input he has on the lives of residents at Broadwater Lodge each and every day.

“I’m thrilled to have won the home manager of the year award, the competition was extremely tough and I’m honoured to have been chosen by the judges for this award. The whole team works incredibly hard and I couldn’t have done it without them!”
