Rustington residents turn over a new leaf with arty project

Home news

Rustington residents turn over a new leaf with arty projectResidents at a Rustington care home turned over a new leaf when they took part in a special community art project.

Care UK’s Darlington Court, on The Leas off Station Road, recently took part in the ‘Gardens Around the World’ project, a nationwide art exhibition run by Creative Mojo in partnership with the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA).

Residents picked up their pencils and created a work of art inspired by the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, in Thailand, often described as one of the most beautiful gardens in the world. The special piece was then put on display at the Littlehampton Library, alongside other contributions.

Nikki Burke, home manager at Darlington Court, said: “Many residents at Darlington Court have a keen interest in creative activities, so the ‘Gardens Around the World’ project provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase these skills.

“Drawing has many benefits for residents, especially those living with dementia, as it offers an alternative way to communicate and a chance to relive happy memories. It was great to travel to Thailand through our Nong Nooch Garden-inspired work of art – the residents were thrilled to see their masterpiece displayed in the library, and we’re already looking forward to the next exhibition.”

Darlington Court has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short-term respite.
