Hythe care home residents take birdwatch weekend to the ‘nest level’

Hythe care home residents take birdwatch weekend to the ‘nest level’Residents at a care home in Hythe celebrated Britain’s best birds as part of the world’s largest garden wildlife survey – and it was a flying success!

This year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch inspired activities took place over the weekend and residents at Care UK’s Carpathia Grange on Southampton Road were thrilled to celebrate the best of British birds with some exciting avian-themed activities.

As part of the celebrations, residents were joined by Little Shipmates Nursery for a special birds of prey visit. On the day, children and residents had a chance to meet a variety of feathered friends up close and find out more about them during a special ‘Show and tell’ workshop led by the Creature Teachers.

Ray Arnold, home manager at Carpathia Grange, said: “Residents love taking part in nature-themed activities here at Carpathia Grange, and we had a lot of fun for our first year taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

“Animal therapy, combined with intergenerational relationships, is extremely beneficial for older people, and promotes positive social interaction as well as improving wellbeing. This can be particularly helpful for those living with dementia, as it can conjure happy memories and the associated emotions.

“I’d like to say thank you to children at Little Shipmates Nursery for joining us and making the day so special.”
