Horsham care home residents celebrate a virtual Mother’s Day

Home news

Horsham care home residents celebrate a virtual Mother’s DayWith all but the most essential visitors having to stay away to reduce the risk of infection, a care home team in Horsham found a creative way to allow residents to celebrate Mother’s Day with the help of Facebook and Skype.

Care UK’s Skylark House, on St Marks Lane, is currently not receiving visitors, so instead they shared Mother’s Day with their families in a virtual way, by sharing photos and messages of love on Facebook and taking part in video calls.

The residents received flower deliveries from loved ones and had their photos taken with their Mother’s Day gifts which were then shared on Facebook with messages of thanks and love to their families. These were shared on the care homes Facebook page for their sons and daughters to see.

The home pulled out all the stops to ensure all the residents enjoyed the day, by hosting a tasty afternoon cream tea, playing jazz music and decorating the care home.

Devendra Lallchand, home manager at Skylark House, said: “In these very strange and uncertain times, we are doing all that we can here at Skylark House to keep spirits high and ensure the residents can still continue to be close to their loved ones via video calls.

“Part of our ethos here at the home is to make sure residents lead fulfilling lives, and we are keen to ensure the residents can continue to share happy times and memories with their loved ones virtually. I’m so pleased all the residents enjoyed this unique Mother’s Day.”

Skylark House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite and palliative care.
