Search for Bracknell’s local heroes resumes at town’s newest care home

Search for Bracknell’s local heroes resumes at town’s newest care homeBracknell’s newest care home is asking the community to nominate ‘local heroes’ for the chance to win a £500 cash prize.

Care UK’s Bickerton House, on Warfield Road, is searching for local people or organisations who go above and beyond for their community, friends or family, and have a positive impact on the local area.

After kicking off late last year, the competition is now relaunching to give local people the opportunity to nominate their ‘lockdown heroes’.  The winner will receive £500 and there will be two runners-up, with £200 for second place and £100 for third.

Erika Smith, home manager at Bickerton House, said: “Though our local heroes competition was initially meant to end in April, many things have changed since, and the global pandemic has completely transformed our daily lives.

“Over the past few months, community members have really come together to support each other, and we want to reward one of the countless acts of kindness performed - whether that be keeping in touch with an elderly neighbour through phone or letters, volunteering or making masks for our key workers.

“Whether they’re an individual who has gone above and beyond for others or an organisation which provided support to their community at a time it was most needed, tell us their stories – here at Bickerton House, we want to say thank you.”

To nominate your ‘local hero’, visit https://www.careuk.com/care-homes/local-heroes-bickerton before 5pm on Friday 30th October 2020 and explain in 100-400 words why they deserve to be rewarded.

The purpose-built care home has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, and incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, including its own cinema, hair salon and café.
