Hythe care home drops off deliver-teas for the local community

Home news

A care home in Hythe has been delivering afternoon tea to older people in the local area.

Care UK’s Carpathia Grange, on Southampton Road, put together 75 festive boxes for local residents that included Age Concern Day Centre members who had links with Carpathia Grange before the pandemic.

Hythe care home drops off deliver-teas for the local communityThe care home, which just celebrated its first birthday, would usually invite older people from the community into the home, especially those living alone who may feel isolated at this time of year, for a Christmas meal and celebration. As this can’t happen this year due to Covid, the home team put their thinking caps on and decided to bring Christmas to the community instead.

The boxes, containing seasonal treats made by Carpathia Grange’s chefs including scones, clotted cream, jam and mince pies, and were shared with local charities and organisations that work with older people in the Hythe community, including Waterside home care, The Horrill Day Centre, and The Megan Cares, as well as Age Concern..

Pooja Dhoot, Home Manager at Carpathia Grange, said: “Having a strong relationship with those in our local community plays an important part of life here at Carpathia Grange, and the afternoon tea deliveries gave us a great opportunity to reach out to those in our local community and spread some festive cheer.

“We would like to thank the teams who distributed the afternoon tea boxes on our behalf, and we hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas treat.

“We’re looking forward to continuing to support older people in the community in the new year, and would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.”

The three-storey care home, which provides residential, dementia and nursing care, features 62 ensuite bedrooms, and has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
