Local care home invites Witney residents to understand dementia

Home news

A care home in Witney is inviting the local community to a free, virtual event for families caring for loved ones living with dementia.

On Wednesday 2nd June, from 2pm-3.30pm, Care UK’s Millers Grange, on Curbridge Road, will be hosting a virtual Understanding Dementia event.

Dementia specialist, Dr Nori Graham, who is the Vice President of the Alzheimer’s Society and has extensive experience in healthcare for older people, will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with the condition.

Alison Parry, Home Manager at Millers Grange, said: “We know that it can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia. It’s natural to feel confused about the best way to help your loved one, so our event aims to offer professional knowledge and insight to those who need it – as well as providing a hub for shared experiences.

“We want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. This event has proven popular in the past and we’re looking forward to welcoming local people virtually for an inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The team at Millers Grange will host the joint event using Zoom, which is very easy to use. Simply call or email Michael Kenny, and he will send a link to join the event and share his tips to make the most out of the session.

Millers Grange has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential dementia and respite care, and incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, including its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.

To book your place at this event, please call Michael Kenny, on 07580 600736 or email michael.kenny@careuk.com
