Stanley care home shortlisted in national awards

Home news

A care home in Stanley is celebrating after being named as a finalist for a national award.

Care UK’s Stanley Park, on Wear Road, has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Response to Covid-19’ category at the Care Home Awards.

The Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation in UK care home management, operation and delivery. The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony in September.

The home was affected, like so many others across the country, by the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic especially, but members of the team quickly adapted to the new circumstances, from pulling together to fill the roles of team members self- isolating, to ensuring relatives remained able to keep in touch with their loved ones.

One member of the nursing team even moved into the home for three months to ensure that the best possible care could be provided around the clock, while the management team regularly assessed the team’s morale, offering those struggling emotionally to move away from the front line and work in the office.

The home team put an emphasis on maintaining a form of normalcy wherever possible for residents and kept morale up by organising engaging activities and events within the home. This included outside performances from entertainers, including a Vera Lynn tribute act, and even a socially-distanced disco. The home was also inundated with support from the community, receiving letters from local children, baked goods for the team and handmade gifts.

A relative said: “This home is so full of love – it isn’t just a care home it’s a family, each team member goes above and beyond for all of the residents and their families.”

Christine Dudley, Home Manager at Stanley Park, said: “We are delighted to have made it to the finals in the ‘Best Response to Covid-19’ category at the Care Home Awards.

“It’s been a heart-breaking year, with many challenges, but the team have been exceptional and it’s difficult to find the words to express how proud and grateful I am for their determination and commitment to support every resident, relative, and each other. Residents’ wellbeing is, and always has been, our number one priority and everyone has worked hard to adapt our normal activities and make them Covid-safe. We have been overwhelmed with support from the community, which has made the past year a bit easier.

“To be shortlisted for this award is a testament to the team’s dedication, so I’d like to say a huge thank you to each and every team member for their efforts in making Stanley Park a wonderful place to call home.”

The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony taking place on 10th September 2021.

Stanley Park has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential and nursing care, as well as short-term respite.
