Popular nutrition advice event comes to Bury St Edmunds care homes

Two care homes in Bury St Edmunds are inviting local people caring for loved ones to learn more about nutrition and hydration in later life.

On Tuesday 15^th June, from 2pm-4pm, Care UK’s Davers Court and Glastonbury Court will be welcoming the local community to join an informative virtual session which will discuss the preparation of nutritious meals for older loved ones. Glenn Eldridge, Head Chef at Glastonbury Court, will also be on hand to provide insight into stimulating appetite, ways to incorporate all the senses at meal times, and share tips on supporting older people to maintain a healthy weight.

The virtual session will be fully interactive, and aims to help those caring for older loved ones to feel more confident in ensuring relatives continue to be well-nourished at home.

There will be a Q&A session to help attendees get the most out of the talk, and the chance to find out more about Care UK’s approach to dining with dignity, including how to accommodate different diets, such as those for people with difficulty swallowing.

Members of the local community will also receive a digital copy of Care UK’s free guide ‘Eating as we age’.

Sally Shadbolt, Home Manager at Davers Court, said: “We understand the importance of providing tasty, nutritious and well-balanced seasonal menus for older people, and pride ourselves on helping individuals to dine with dignity.

“Joined by Glenn, this informative session will encourage families to ensure their loved ones eat and drink well, and support them to overcome challenges along the way – a balanced diet can boost health, relieve aches and pains and even increase mental wellbeing, which is something we’re keen to support.

“By hosting a free event on the subject, we can provide local people with more confidence, expert advice, inspiration and the opportunity to find out more about the importance of healthy eating and hydration in later life.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The teams will host the event using Zoom, an online meeting space.
