Local care home sets tongues a-wagging with new canine relations manager

Residents at an Enfield care home have welcomed a new furry companion with open arms.

Bobby the Jack Russell and Chihuahua cross will be joining Care UK’s Elizabeth Lodge, on Pennington Drive, as the home’s Canine Relations Manager.

The two-and-a-half-year-old rescue will team up with the home’s Customer Relations Manager, Jaime – she’ll be taking care of the human side of things, while Bobby will be on hand as a companion for residents who can walk, play with, and fuss him.Local care home sets tongues a-wagging with new canine relations manager

Already acquainted with Elizabeth Lodge is Tinkerbell, the ‘Feline Relations Manager’, who has already welcomed Bobby with open paws. The home created these roles after being inspired by the positive impact animal visits have had on care home residents’ wellbeing, with many welcoming the opportunity for quality time with now two furry friends.

Ellen, a resident at the home, said: “As a lifelong animal lover I particularly enjoy the dog visits – thank you.”

Michelle Sampang, Home Manager at Elizabeth Lodge, said: “Studies have shown that introducing dogs into care homes can help lift people’s mood and increase social interaction.

“Residents already loved Tinkerbell, and they were thrilled to meet Bobby when Jaime started to bring him in to visit too. The human-animal bond is powerful in promoting self-esteem and wellbeing, and canine relations managers like Bobby, are brilliant at doing this.

“We’re looking forward to seeing Bobby develop in his new role – so far, he’s received nothing but praise from residents!”
