Triple success! Care home celebrates national recognition

Home achievement

A care home in Maidstone is celebrating after being named in the top 20 most recommended care homes in the South East and being shortlisted for two national awards.

The Care UK team at Invicta Court, on Gidd’s Pond Way, beat off stiff competition from over 3,000 care homes in the South East to be named in the top 20 in carehome.co.uk’s Top 20 Care Home Awards 2021, alongside fellow Care UK home, Bickerton House

Furthering their success, Invicta Court has also been shortlisted for two national awards by two sector leading organisations. The home’s Head Chef has been shortlisted for ‘Care Chef of the Year’ in the National Care Awards 2021, while the wider catering team have been shortlisted for ‘Establishment of the Year Award’ in the National Association of Care Catering Awards. Both national awards recognise and reward unsung heroes within their organisations and the care catering sector.

Jacqui Pompeus, Home Manager at Invicta Court, said: “The whole team is thrilled to be in the top 20 care homes in the South East and to be nominated for these two national awards. Being shortlisted is further testament to the team’s hard work and passion to ensure every resident leads a happy and fulfilling life. To provide excellent person-centred care, it’s essential that the catering and lifestyle teams work closely together to effectively meet the wellbeing needs of the residents.

“The last year has certainly had its challenges, but the team have gone above and beyond to maintain as much normality as possible for residents, and food and mealtimes have played a huge role in this."

I’m incredibly proud of our team and everything they do to ensure Invicta Court is a fantastic place to call home. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a double win later this year to add to our success.

The nomination for ‘Care Chef of the Year’ is the result of the dedication and focus of Head Chef, Will Carpenter, who joined the team in March 2020, and the strong catering team he manages. Will has taken a person-centred approach to his role, meeting every resident upon their arrival to Invicta Court to design menus around their preferences and clinical needs. Will and his team lead baking activities, kitchen tours, food tasting sessions and cater for themed days and events designed to entertain and engage residents.

Commenting on his nomination, Will said: “I’m delighted to be shortlisted for Chef of the Year. Since joining Invicta Court, my focus has been to ensure food and dining are centred around residents’ choices, while offering additional options they might not have tried before. I’m very lucky to have such a strong team alongside me, and together we work hard to please the residents - making this a dream job to come to work to each day.”

Invicta Court offers a full range of older people’s care services in luxurious surroundings, including a café, hair and beauty salon, bar and cinema. The highly trained, professional team delivers permanent and short-term nursing and residential care, as well as specialist dementia care.
