Bracknell care home wins coveted national award

A care home in Bracknell is celebrating after being named ‘Best New Care Home’ in the Care Home Awards 2021. 

Care UK’s Bickerton House on Warfield Road, which opened its doors in January 2020 has been consistently praised for its person-centred approach and commitment to going above and beyond to meet the needs of the residents. 

The judges highlighted the innovative ways the home ensured residents kept in touch with their loved ones throughout the pandemic and praised the high level of input residents have into life at the care home. 

The judges went on to praise the team at Bickerton House for its strategic approach towards its lifestyle activities, which are thoughtfully planned around the resident’s interests and experiences. One resident was a Spitfire pilot in the Second World War and was recently encouraged to share his experiences and medals for the 75^th anniversary of VE Day. The judges highlighted how lifestyle co-ordinators regularly work with the catering team to create themed days that build on the residents’ past experiences. This has recently included a Spanish afternoon, where residents enjoyed tapas, sangria, Spanish music, and dancing.

The annual Care Home Awards, which highlight the top care homes throughout the UK, celebrate the very best people in the long-term care sector and reward those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care. The awards recognise excellence and innovation in UK care home management, operation, and delivery. 

Bickerton House has been designed to encourage residents to live active and fulfilling lives, while remaining as independent as possible in a safe environment. The state-of-the-art care home, which opened last year, provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, and features a bar and café, cinema, hair salon, activities room and garden.
