Team member at Edinburgh care home shortlisted for coveted national award

Home news

A team member at a care home in Edinburgh is celebrating after being shortlisted for a national award.

Kerry Yorkston, a carer at Care UK’s Lauder Lodge, on Wakefield Avenue, has been named as a ‘Care Employee of the Year’ finalist in the Caring UK awards, a category which recognises employees in the sector for their outstanding commitment to residents in their care.

The Caring UK awards celebrate excellence in the care industry and pay tribute to the care home teams making an outstanding contribution to caring for older people.

Kerry was praised for her holistic approach to care, focusing on each person’s individuality and finding small ways to ensure the residents in her care feel valued and special – whether that’s sitting down for a cup of tea, or going for a walk in the garden.

Going above and beyond, judges noted Kerry consistently thinks of innovative ways to support her residents to lead fulfilling lives – from organising shopping trips, lunch outings, and even taking a resident to a football match, prior to the pandemic.

Anees Riaz, Home Manager at Lauder Lodge, said: “We are thrilled that Kerry has been shortlisted as ‘Care Employee of the Year’ at this year’s Caring UK Awards.

“Kerry is a much-loved member of the Lauder Lodge family, and her patience and perseverance has produced some incredibly positive outcomes for those in her care. Residents are always at the heart of everything she does – she knows and understands each person, and through that, is able to support them to the best of her ability.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Kerry, and all of the fantastic carers at Lauder Lodge for everything they do. It is greatly appreciated by us, residents and their relatives. We have our fingers crossed for the awards ceremony!”
