Feeling fine and sandy – Leamington Spa care home resident enjoys seaside trip

A care home in Leamington Spa made shore to fulfil a resident’s birthday wish to travel to the coast.  

Gill Corby, a resident at Care UK’s Priors House, on Old Milverton Lane, missed the sights and sounds of the sea and wanted to enjoy a holiday by the beach – so the team reached out to its sister care home on the South coast to make the wish become a reality.  

Working with Carpathia Grange care home, in Hythe, near her holiday destination in Southampton, the teams planned a stay fit for royalty. Ensuring Gill’s every need would be met, they made all the necessary arrangements so she could focus on enjoying her special trip and spending quality time with her friends Martin and Jackie. 

Upon her arrival at Carpathia Grange, Gill was treated to a special welcome from the team, complete with balloons and flowers as well as sweet treats. During her trip, she was also able to visit Bournemouth Aquarium, Mudeford, Lynmouth and the New Forest, and walked along the Hampshire-Avon path. 

Gill said: “My time at Carpathia Grange was amazing and everyone was so welcoming. The team were kind and easy to befriend. They had beautiful decorations waiting for me which I was very surprised by. I can’t thank both Priors House and Carpathia Grange enough for their hard work. It was amazing to spend time with Martin and Jackie and getting some time away has definitely done me a world of good.”

Francine Summers, Home Manager at Priors House, said: “Gill’s trip down the coast was one for the books, and there’s no doubt she’ll still be talking about it for weeks to come.

“It’s been a challenging year and many of us have craved a seaside holiday – so when Gill told us she wanted to spend time with her friends in Southampton, we knew we wanted to help. We reached out to our sister care home, Carpathia Grange, which is located near her chosen holiday destination, who were thrilled to help as soon as they heard her story.

“It was incredibly rewarding to see the amazing pictures she took while on holiday and hear about all the new memories she was able to create with her friends Martin and Jackie – all without having to worry about accommodation or care quality. We’d like to say a big thank you to the team at Carpathia Grange for their help – we’re delighted we could work together to make Gill’s wish come true.”
