Raising the woof! Care home residents raise £500 with four-legged friends

Highlighted home news

A Mobberley care home has been taking part in a national dog walking challenge to raise money for Dementia UK.

Residents and team members at Care UK’s Cranford Grange, on Hall Lane, have been making the most of the spring sunshine by walking 100 laps of the home’s garden, with their four-legged friends throughout March, as part of Dementia UK’s March Dog Walking Challenge.

Accompanying the residents, was Dexter, a Cocker Spaniel, and Meg, a Border Collie, among others, who each enjoyed many cuddles with the residents after their walk around the garden. Also lending a helping paw was newly appointed Director of Canine Relations, Loki, who ensured everyone remained on their best behaviour and followed the route around the garden to raise £500 for the charity.

Dementia UK are a national charity that provide Admiral nurses for families affected by dementia. As dementia specialists, Admiral Nurses support families and friends caring for a person living with dementia, by offering practical advice and support.

Lisa Burrows, Home Manager at Cranford Grange, said: “We have had a fantastic time throughout March here at Cranford Grange, making the most of the spring sunshine by raising money for such a fantastic cause.

“Dementia UK are a fantastic charity that provide much-needed advice and support to those living with dementia. The March Dog Walking Challenge provided a great opportunity for residents and team members to make the most of Cranford Grange’s beautiful garden and the warmer weather – and invite our favourite four-legged friends for cuddles!

“A big well done to everyone that took part for raising such a fantastic amount – well done Cranford Grange!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Cranford Grange, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
