Selfless Witney care home team member scoops coveted award

Highlighted home news

A Witney care home is celebrating after one of its team members won a regional accolade.

Rachel Scurr, Deputy Manager at Care UK’s Millers Grange, on Curbridge Road, has been named Oxfordshire Local Hero.

The awards, organised by Oxford Tube in partnership with Stagecoach, aim to recognise the contributions of key workers who have worked tirelessly during the pandemic.

As the manager of Millers Grange’s state-of-the-art dementia suite, Rachel was applauded for always putting the residents’ needs above hers. An advocate for Positive Approach to Care, a philosophy developed by a leading dementia expert which focuses on residents’ abilities rather than disabilities, Rachel uses her expertise to support those around her and enhance the daily lives of those living at the home.

Her dedication throughout the pandemic, combined with the high standards of round-the-clock care provided by the team under her watch, impressed the judges, who decided to name her an Oxfordshire Local Hero. She was rewarded with a special trip to London and afternoon tea for two.

Rachel said: “I’m thrilled to have been named ‘Oxfordshire Local Hero’. I’m proud of the team here at Millers Grange and of how hard everybody has worked throughout the pandemic – they’re all heroes, every single one of them.”

Alison Parry, Home Manager at Millers Grange, added: “I’m delighted to see Rachel’s hard work being rewarded – she thoroughly deserves to be recognised. Her energy and passion for care shines through everything she does and ultimately means residents simply receive the best possible care all while leading active and fulfilled lives. Well done, Rachel!”

Millers Grange has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential dementia and respite care.
