The royal treatment – Shinfield care home residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style

Home news

Residents at a care home in Shinfield have been enjoying a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen.

Care UK’s Parsons Grange, on Westall Street, has welcomed the community to mark the Queen’s official 70-year milestone by hosting a jubilee celebration in the gardens of the home.

The garden party included live entertainment from Ray Martin, a local guitarist, who got everyone’s feet tapping. Visitors and residents were treated to a special lunch prepared by the home’s head chef, including a barbecue, summer salads, fruit platters and jubilee inspired cupcakes.

In the afternoon, there was also special cabaret performed from Troubadour productions. The show included a royal themed comedy sketch with old time songs, including Vera Lynn and Buddy Holly classics.

Residents have also spent time reminiscing about their own memories of the royal family, including Anne, who had a working relationship with The Queen.

Claire Usher, Customer Relations Manager at Parsons Grange, added: “We had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with the community here at Parsons Grange.

“For older people, and those living with dementia, reminiscing about key milestones, such as previous jubilee celebrations, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. These positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood.

“We have many royalists here at Parsons Grange including Anne, who were keen to mark the Queen’s incredible reign and celebrate in style. Everyone had a fantastic time, and we’re already planning our next royal knees up!”
