Residents at two care homes in Stockport have been enjoying Platinum Jubilee celebrations fit for a queen.
Care UK’s Abney Court, in Cheadle, and Ladybrook Manor, in Bramhall, have marked the Queen’s official 70-year milestone by hosting special events.
Celebrating in true British style, team members at Abney Court and Ladybrook Manor went all out to royally decorate the gardens with Union Jack flags, bunting and balloons.
Residents at Abney Court enjoyed a special garden party, complete with a classic afternoon tea spread, including crustless sandwiches, homemade scones, and cakes, specially prepared for the occasion by the home’s chef. Guests also tapped their feet to a medley of nostalgic songs with live music performed by Sam Jones.
As a homage to the special day, 102-year-old resident, Margaret, was named ‘queen for the day’ and sat on a throne and wore a crown.
Meanwhile, residents at Ladybrook Manor also held a garden party, serving a traditional high tea, complete with crustless sandwiches, quiches, prawn vol-au-vents and homemade cakes, specially prepared by the home’s chef. Residents welcomed local performer Daniel Winters, who performed old time classics – and to top off the afternoon, he sang a rendition of God Save the Queen, and the head chef brought out a special cake to mark the occasion.
Residents have also spent time reminiscing about their own memories of the Queen, including three residents, 102-year-old Margaret, 101-year-old Florence, and 100-year-old Doris, who upon reaching the grand age of 100 all received cards from the Queen.
Andrew McIntyre, Home Manager at Abney Court, said: “We had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee here at Abney Court.
“For older people, and those living with dementia, reminiscing about key milestones, such as previous jubilee celebrations, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connections with those around them. These positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood.
Ruth Baggs, General Manager at Ladybrook Manor, added: “We have many royalists here at Ladybrook Manor who were keen to mark the Queen’s incredible reign and celebrate in style. Everyone had a fantastic time, and we’re already planning our next royal knees up!”
