Let me eat cake! Whitstable care home whips up over £900 for charity

Home news

Residents and team members at a Whitstable care home raised £938 for Breast Cancer Now after welcoming the local community for a fundraising event.

On the day, team members from Care UK’s Harrier Lodge, on Thanet Way, welcomed residents, relatives and members of the Whitstable community to the home for a special afternoon tea party.

Wanting to create a truly memorable experience, the team at Harrier Lodge dressed in pink and gave the home’s dining room a makeover, with pink flags, balloons and bunting.

Guests to the party enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea, thoughtfully prepared by the home’s talented Chefs, which included sandwiches, scones and a selection of cakes. The home also hosted a raffle with prizes donated from local businesses.

The event raised £469 with local business, Miller Insurance Company, kindly doubling the home’s efforts, taking the grand total to £938.

The event was created to celebrate Care UK’s 40th birthday, which has seen the provider attempt to raise £40,000 in fundraising activities for good causes. Breast Cancer Now are the UK’s largest breast cancer charity and provide world-class research and life-changing care for people affected by the condition.

Sadie Porteous, Home Manager at Harrier Lodge, said: “We had a fantastic time welcoming the local community and residents’ friends and relatives to our afternoon tea party.

“The afternoon was very much a team effort, from the catering team who provided the homemade afternoon tea, to the team members who dressed up and made the fantastic decorations, and the residents, relatives and local community who came along to support Breast Cancer Now.

“We want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped us raise such a fantastic amount. We are already looking forward to planning future events with the community that continue to raise funds for worthy causes.”
