‘Keep busy’ – local care home resident reveals secret to long life on 101st birthday

Home news

A resident at a care home in Bracknell celebrated her 101st birthday by sharing the secret to a long and happy life.

A very special birthday celebration took place at Bickerton House, on Warfield Road, when resident Gertrude Saunders, also known as Trudy, celebrated her 101st birthday in style, revealing her secret to longevity is to ‘keep busy’.

To mark the big day, the team decorated the home’s bistro area with balloons and banners, and the home’s talented chef baked a special birthday cake for everyone to enjoy.

Trudy was born in Willenhall, Wolverhampton, just after the First World War. Trudy married Maurice Saunders in 1945 and they went on to have one daughter together – Kay.

Throughout her life, Trudy has enjoyed dancing, knitting, and is also an accomplished baker.

Erika Smith, Home Manager at Bickerton House, said: “Trudy is a much-loved resident here at Bickerton House and it was fantastic to help her celebrate this incredible milestone.

“Everything we do is centred around supporting residents to lead fulfilling lives, which is why we are always keen to celebrate special milestones. Trudy 101st birthday was no exception, and it was wonderful to raise a glass together on her special day. Cheers to Trudy!”
