Let there be colour! Ashford care home residents celebrate Holi festival

Home news

Residents at a care home in Ashford marked the Hindu festival of colour, Holi, with an afternoon celebrating Hindu culture.

Residents at Care UK’s Montfort Manor, on Kennington Road, celebrated the festival with an Indian-inspired lunch and a colourful activity with team members.

As part of the celebrations, residents and team members went outside to the home’s garden to perform the festival’s traditional ritual, throwing coloured power to celebrate the start of spring. Together with team members, residents enjoyed throwing coloured powder and paints at each other to celebrate spring.

With the paint dried and everyone back inside, residents enjoyed an afternoon learning more about Hinduism, and the origins of the festival, before enjoying a traditional, Indian-inspired lunch, including karla fish curry, butter chicken, chicken biriani and onion bhaji’s all hand made by the home’s Head Chef, Anna Sudak.

Commenting on the event, resident, Barbra said: “I didn’t know much about Holi so really enjoyed taking part and learning more about the festival with everyone.”

Joanne Eaton, Home Manager at Montfort Manor, said: “The residents had a great time celebrating Holi festival and learning more about Hinduism.

“At Montfort Manor, we are committed to ensuring the home is a welcoming and supportive place for everyone, where different cultures and interests are regularly celebrated through memorable activities which promote positive wellbeing.

“Everyone had a great time celebrating Holi and learning more about when the festival began. We are already looking forward to next year’s celebrations!”
