Home news
Residents at a local care home were delighted when they were visited by a pony from a nearby stables.
There was excitement from both residents and the team at Care UK’s Smyth Lodge, on Frognal Avenue, when the new visitor – called Xuli – trotted in.
The afternoon kicked off with a tour around the home and the grounds, followed by an interesting talk from the pony’s handlers, Saddles Riding Centre. Residents were able to learn more about Xuli, including how she’s cared for and his personality.
During her visit, Xuli saw every single resident in the home and was treated to plenty of fruit, cuddles and affection.
Tracey Cheeseman, Home Manager at Smyth Lodge, said: “We love welcoming any type of furry friend into our home. Animal therapy has an incredibly positive effect on mental wellbeing, especially for older people, as it can be calming, boost confidence and help to prompt conversations.
“It wasn’t just the residents who enjoyed Xuli’s visit, members of the Care UK team loved taking her for a walk around the home to ensure everyone had the opportunity to meet her, as well as some cuddles and petting. She was well and truly spoiled!”
Smyth Lodge has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The state-of-the-art care home, which opened in 2019, provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, and features a cinema, hair salon and activities room.
