Worcester care home up for Midlands and Wales Care Home of the Year

Home news

A care home in Worcester is celebrating after being shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The team at Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, is in the running for ‘Midlands & Wales Care Home of the Year’ at this year’s Caring UK Awards.

The Caring UK Awards celebrate excellence and achievement by highlighting the outstanding contributions made by care home teams across the care sector in the UK.

The team at Perry Manor have been recognised for their commitment to going above and beyond to provide tailored residential, dementia, nursing and respite care.

Home Manager, Katherine Matthews, has been praised for shaping and cultivating a strong team culture and family atmosphere within the home. Team members are provided with excellent tools for communication and training for development, with a ‘whole home’ approach taken towards continuous improvement to ensure skills and learnings are exchanged.

The home’s efforts to create an inclusive environment is reflective of their person-centred care approach. Working with a local equality and diversity group that provides training on how to better support LGBTQ+ residents and team members, alongside those from diverse backgrounds, the team were able to showcase and celebrate a variety of cuisines, languages and traditions.

The home has also created roles for resident ambassadors, relative ambassadors and ‘Voice of Perry Manor Group’, all appointed with the aim of empowering residents to be able to discuss life at the home and any improvements. The relative ambassadors have worked with Katherine to rewrite the relatives’ guide and have taken an active role in new starter inductions.

Working closely with the local Integrated Care Board, the home identified a demand in the community for specialist care, and launched a brand-new, high-needs suite to meet the care requests of the region. After being shortlisted for the Leaders in Care Awards, the home is now working towards the accreditations of the Gold Standards Framework by developing the home’s end-of-life provisions.

Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor, said: “We’re delighted to be shortlisted for ‘Midlands & Wales Care Home of the Year’. Being nominated for this award showcases every team member’s commitment and all the hard work they put in every day to make Perry Manor a great place to live and work.

“Here at Perry Manor, we believe in the power of our approach to person-centred care, and in enabling residents to lead fulfilling lives. Every single team member goes the extra mile for residents every day, and their determination to provide the highest possible standards of care never wavers.

“We look forward to seeing everyone at the awards ceremony later this year, and hope we come away as the winners!”

The Caring UK Awards ceremony will take place on 7th December at the Athena, in Leicester.

Perry Manor is a state-of-the-art Care UK home, which provides full time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short term respite care. Rated outstanding by the CQC, the home is designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema, cafe and hair salon, with plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
