Hythe care home opens its doors for a merry good time

Home news

Snow is falling, children are playing – and a care home in Hythe opened its doors to help combat loneliness in the community this festive season.

Care UK’s Carpathia Grange, on Southampton Road, helped older members of the community get into the festive spirit with residents and team members by hosting a very special Christmas party.

Team members put up dazzling decorations in preparation for the festive celebration for those in the community receiving support from Waterside Home Care.

The party kicked off with a festive feast of finger foods, prepared by the home’s Head Chef, and a traditional carolling session to end the party on a high. This was followed by live entertainment from Esievo Atete, Clinical Lead, and other members of the Carpathia Grange team, who performed classic Christmas songs, which got everyone singing and dancing along.

Studies have shown that almost 1.5 million older people feel lonelier at Christmas than any other time of year*. To help tackle loneliness, Care UK has launched its Care to Share initiative, designed to support older people through the festive season.

More than 100 Care UK homes nationwide will be taking part to give older members of the community a safe and sociable space where they can enjoy some festive fun and good company – whether it’s singing along to Christmas carols or watching a Christmas movie with a mince pie.

Pooja Dhoot, Home Manager at Carpathia Grange, said: “Here at Carpathia Grange, we’re passionate about playing an active role in our community, so we were delighted to open our doors to members of the local community.

“We know December can be a difficult month for many, so this was a wonderful opportunity to bring people together to get into the Christmas spirit and for everyone to build new friendships – as well as reminisce over fond festive memories.

“Thank you to everyone at Waterside Home Care for joining us and helping us kick off our Christmas celebrations!”

Carpathia Grange is a three-storey care home which provides residential, dementia and nursing care. The home features 62 en-suite bedrooms and has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
