Norwich care home residents and students make waves with mural

A care home in Norwich has added a splash of colour to its garden wall through a special mural project celebrating creativity and community.

Residents at Care UK’s Cavell Court, on Dragonfly Lane in Cringleford, teamed up with art students from City College Norwich and street artist Knapple to design and paint a bright and lively seascape.

The project brought together students from a variety of backgrounds, including English Language learners and home-schooled creatives, who worked alongside residents to share ideas and bring the design to life.

Charlotte Hiom, Creative Arts Course Leader at City College Norwich, said: “Working with a care home on this mural has been a fantastic opportunity for our students. They developed lots of ideas, which were then shaped together with the residents into a vibrant seascape.

“What really made this project stand out was seeing residents and students painting side by side, showing that creativity has no age limit. It has been inspiring for everyone involved and a great example of how art can bring generations together.”

Family and friends of the students were invited to visit the home to see the finished mural and hear first-hand about the rewarding experience of this intergenerational collaboration. The event was filled with conversation, laughter and a real sense of pride in the shared achievement.

Pedro Campos, Home Manager at Cavell Court, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to unveil this mural – it has brought so much joy and colour to our garden. It’s been wonderful to see residents and students working side by side, sharing stories and creativity.

“This project is a fantastic example of how creativity and community spirit can brighten lives and build meaningful connections across generations.”

Cavell Court is a modern care home that provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema, café and hair and beauty salon, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
