A care home in Sutton has celebrated Wimbledon's return with its own themed event.
Care UK’s Tennyson Grange, on Westmead Road, welcomed the 5th Sutton Scouts, who joined residents for a day of Wimbledon-themed fun and friendly competition.
Everyone took to the garden and showed off their tennis skills in a series of light-hearted matches.
Resident Rita Caine,79, said: “I loved the whole event, especially playing tennis with the Scouts, it was really fun!
“My mum used to be glued to the television every year for Wimbledon and I think that’s where I got the bug for Wimbledon. I still watch it even now, every year.”
Residents enjoyed front-row seats to the matches, with music, refreshments and themed activities creating a true Wimbledon atmosphere.
Brighton Nyagomo, General Manager at Tennyson Grange, said: “We’re always looking for ways to bring residents together for activities which make everyday moments special – and this was certainly one of those days. It was brilliant to see everyone’s serve and backhand skills too; it all allowed us to do some light exercise, which can do wonders for older people.
“Thank you to the 5th Sutton Scouts for joining us. The residents enjoyed playing, and it was a great way to enjoy the sunshine together.”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Tennyson Grange, incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the home has been configured to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents, and it has its very own cinema, hair and beauty salon and café.
