Highlighted home news

A furry new face has joined the team at a care home in Wantage – and he’s already earned his place as top dog.
Care UK’s Charlton Lodge, on Buttercup Road, has welcomed its newest (and fluffiest) team member: a playful puppy named Ronnie, who has already begun stealing hearts in his new role as Canine Relations Manager.

At just four months old, the working cocker spaniel may be the youngest member of the team but he’s already made a big impression. Now a weekly visitor to Charlton Lodge, Ronnie spends his time spreading smiles, collecting cuddles and ensuring everyone has a few tasty treats on hand.
Since his visits began, Ronnie’s presence has brought an extra dose of happiness to residents. His visits spark conversations among residents who enjoy reminiscing about their own much-loved pets, and team members are equally thrilled to see his wagging tail each week.
Recognising the therapeutic power of animals for people living with dementia, Ronnie’s role highlights the importance of pets in care settings. Annie Hatton, aged 77, said “he takes me back to 40 years ago when we got our first cocker spaniel puppy – he’s adorable”
Carla Kell, Home Manager at Charlton Lodge, said: “Ronnie has fitted in paw-fectly with the team here. His energy and affection lift everyone’s spirits, and it’s been amazing to see how much joy he brings.
“Ronnie takes his role seriously, making sure everyone gets a little one-on-one time between belly rubs and biscuit breaks.
“It’s safe to say our new Canine Relations Manager has already earned his place as the home’s top dog, and residents are looking forward to plenty more puppy love as his visits continue.”
Charlton Lodge is a new state-of the-art care home providing full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to lead enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the home has its very own cinema, hair and beauty salon and pub, along with plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
