Wilmslow care home shortlisted for prestigious national award

A care home in Wilmslow is celebrating after being recognised for its premium interiors.

Care UK’s Long Stone Manor has been nominated in the ‘best interior design – care home’ category at the Healthcare Design Awards 2026, which celebrate innovation and excellence in the design of healthcare facilities and care homes.

Combining luxurious, modern facilities with a warm, homely atmosphere, the Manchester Road home has been thoughtfully designed to enhance residents' health and wellbeing while offering a comfortable, relaxing experience for them, visitors and team members alike.

Emma Tillyer, Home Manager at Long Stone Manor, said: “We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted in the best interior design category at the Healthcare Design Awards. It’s an honour to have been recognised nationally for our stunning home. What a wonderful way to end the year!”

Standout features include a cinema, library and a hair and beauty salon. As visitors enter, they are warmly welcomed by the bistro café, which has quickly become the hub of the home serving freshly baked goods and hot drinks to all.

Every element has been well thought out, with design choices that promote mobility and encourage social interaction. Considered layouts encourage residents to form close-knit communities, while kitchenettes allow residents to cook if they wish, supporting independence, health and wellbeing.

Assisted bathrooms feature contrasting wall architraves for easy recognition, while armchairs include darker piping and seat cushions for improved visibility. Dining chairs combine contrasting woods and fabrics, and handrails are designed in colours that stand out against the walls, helping residents living with dementia move around the home confidently and without stress.

Emma said: “From chatting with loved ones over a cup of coffee in the cosy café to enjoying their favourite film in the cinema or relaxing with a pampering treatment in the beauty salon, we offer spaces that make life more enriching and enjoyable.”

Themed décor promotes reminiscence among residents, visitors and team members, incorporating old newspapers, books and engaging artwork. There are also nods to Umbro, which was founded in Wilmslow, throughout.

Finishing touches embrace themes of flora and fauna, inspired by the nearby Peak District, bringing the outdoors in through landscape-inspired designs and geometric shapes, while ensuring every space remains practical and accessible for all.

Emma added: “We’re proud of our home. Being nominated demonstrates that Long Stone Manor is a care home designed to support independence, health and wellbeing, allowing residents to lead as active and fulfilling lives as possible.

“We’re keeping our fingers crossed for the final next year. Good luck, all!”

The winners will be announced on 12th February at London Hilton on Park Lane.

Long Stone Manor is a state-of-the-art care home that provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care, for up to 60 people. The home has been designed to promote independence, and there is plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
