A care home in Edgbaston has welcomed pupils for a craft workshop celebrating a shared love of books.
Residents at Care UK’s Edgbaston Manor, on Speedwell Road, were joined by children from Harper Bell Seventh-Day Adventist School for a morning of hands-on creativity.

Together, they designed and decorated their own colourful book covers, chatting as they worked and exchanging stories about their favourite reads.
Following the activity, Sybil Gilbert, resident at Edgbaston Manor, picked one of their favourite classics from children’s literature, ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ to read aloud.
Sybil said: “It makes the home feel bright when the children come in and feels good to talk about what books they enjoyed and what books I enjoyed when I was at school”.
Zoe Steventon, Home Manager at Edgbaston Manor, said: “Residents and pupils had a wonderful time getting creative together, designing their own book covers and chatting about their favourite stories.
“We’re always looking for meaningful and engaging ways to involve residents in activities and to encourage new friendships, and this session was a fantastic opportunity to build special bonds across the generations.
“It was lovely to see the children and the residents enjoy the activity. We’re already looking forward to welcoming the children back very soon!”
Edgbaston Manor has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and enable residents to lead active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence. The home provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care, and has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents. There is also plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
