Cheers to 100 years! Thorrington care home resident brings up century

A resident at a care home in Thorrington has marked her 100^th birthday in style.

Josie Saich, who lives at Care UK’s Silversprings on Tenpenny Hill, celebrated her centenarian status with a party featuring a specially prepared spread and a birthday cake made by the home’s Senior Carer, Charlotte.

She was surrounded by friends and family, including son Lloyd, granddaughter Holly, great-granddaughter Phineley and a childhood companion of her sons whom she hadn’t seen in 25 years.

Joanne Rix, Home Manager at Silversprings, said: “Josie has a warmth and generosity that touches everyone she meets. It was wonderful to celebrate this milestone with her and see her so happy on her special day.”

Born in Grays, Josie later lived in Thorpe-le-Soken and Clacton, where she raised her family. She spent her early working years as a waitress and in a sweet shop, before joining Passmore Edwards rehabilitation centre in a role she loved.

Throughout her life, Josie has been known for her kindness and generosity. She has always enjoyed helping others, whether handing out sweets to neighbours or hosting friends and family for her famous roast dinners.

Josie was a keen cyclist and continued this hobby in all weather well into her 80s, keeping active and independent for many years.

Joanne added: “Celebrating special milestones like Josie’s 100^th birthday is an important part of life here, as we focus on creating meaningful moments for residents each day.

“Josie is such a valued part of the Silversprings family, and it was wonderful to see her surrounded by so many familiar faces as she marked this fantastic occasion.”
