Ipswich care home resident surprised with special message from Irish star

A resident at a care home in Ipswich has received a heartfelt surprise from his favourite singer just in time for his birthday celebrations.

Paul Goodchild, who lives at Care UK’s  Prince George House on Mansbrook Boulevard, is a long-time fan of Daniel O’Donnell – even playing his music every day in the home’s cafe.

Knowing how much the music means to him, the team contacted the Irish songster to ask if he would be willing to send a birthday card or message to Paul.

Daniel recorded a personalised video message for the resident, wishing him a happy 69th birthday.

Reflecting on his gift, Paul said: “It was lovely to receive a video message from Daniel – it made my birthday!”

The team at Prince George House presented the video to Paul during his birthday celebration, where he was able to watch the special message surrounded by fellow residents and the Prince George House team. After enjoying some birthday entertainment, Paul continued the celebrations with a visit from his family and enjoyed a homemade birthday cake specially prepared by the home’s Head Chef – and his favourite pizza.

Luminita Triff, Home Manager at Prince George House, said: “It was wonderful to be able to organise such a meaningful surprise for Paul. We know how much he enjoys listening to Daniel O’Donnell each day, so we wanted to do something extra special to celebrate his birthday.

“Seeing his reaction to the video message was fantastic. It’s moments like this that highlight the importance of making wishes come true for residents.”

Prince George House is a modern, purpose-built care home that provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
