Not all heroes wear capes – care home searches for standout Tring residents

A new care home in Tring is asking the community to nominate its local heroes – who could be rewarded with a cash prize.

Care UK’s Eggleton House, which is set to open its Miswell Lane doors in July, is searching for local people or organisations that go above and beyond for their community, friends or family and have a positive impact on the local area.

The winner of the competition will receive £500 and be presented with the funds at the care home’s grand launch event in September.

Clare Hedge, Home Manager at Eggleton House, said: “Everyone has an unsung hero in their life – the person who organises everything, is always there for whoever needs them and never shies away from lending a helping hand.

“Here at Eggleton House, we want to say thank you to those people who consistently go above and beyond – whether they’re a volunteer at a local charity, a leader at a community group or simply a friend who always goes the extra mile.

“We’re inviting locals to share their story so we can say thank you with a well-deserved treat. We can’t wait to read lots of heart-warming stories!”

To nominate a local hero, visit careuk.com/Eggleton-House-Local-hero-competition before 11.59pm on 27th May 2026 and explain in 100-400 words why they deserve to be rewarded.

Designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Eggleton House will incorporate plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
