A care home in Beverley has successfully tackled granting one resident’s wish by taking her to watch her favourite rugby league team in action.
Lifelong Hull FC fan Jo Ince, 79, and resident at Care UK’s Beverley Parklands, had her dream of cheering on the Black & Whites once again come true.

To bring back fond memories of the sport she loves, the home’s team arranged for Jo to attend the fixture against Leeds Rhinos, allowing her to soak up the atmosphere at the MKM Stadium, while watching Hull FC come out 24-16 winners.
Jo’s experience was made possible thanks to Care UK’s Wishing Tree initiative, which allows residents to suggest ideas for new hobbies they’d like to try, places they’d like to visit or even activities linked to past careers. This encourages residents to lead fulfilling lives – from skiing to a fish and chip supper, no wish is too big or small for the team to try to grant.
Sammi Atkin, Home Manager at Beverley Parklands, said: “Rugby has always been a huge passion for Jo, so being able to arrange a return to Hull FC was incredibly special.
“Seeing her back enjoying the matchday atmosphere was fantastic for everyone involved. From kick-off to the final whistle, it was clear Jo had a brilliant time.
“Moments like this show just how important it is for residents to reconnect with the things they love, and we were delighted to help make that happen.”
Beverley Parklands is a modern care home providing full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care and day club support to offer carer relief. Designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilling lives, the building has its very own pub, hair and beauty salon, bowling green and terraced balconies. There is also plenty of space – both in and outdoors – for relaxation and recreation.
