‘Inspiring’ Maidstone care home wins prestigious award

A Maidstone care home was in high spirits after they took home a top accolade at the Dementia Friendly Kent Awards.

Care UK’s Invicta Court, on Gidd’s Pond Way, was named Most Inspiring Dementia Care Provider at the Dementia Friendly Kent Awards.

The awards are designed to recognise care services that provide exceptional person-centred support for people living with dementia and their families. Most Inspiring Dementia Care Provider is awarded to a leader of best practice in enhanced care quality, with a strong community connection and a commitment to dignity and wellbeing.

At Invicta Court, residents’ life stories are remembered and celebrated with newsletters, memory displays and visual prompts. These reduce anxiety, stimulate engagement and, crucially, reinforce identity.

Support from a Mental Health First Aider is provided, with regular sessions that encourage residents to speak openly about difficult topics such as loneliness, anxiety and grief.

One resident, who regularly attends these sessions, said: “It was comforting to know we weren’t alone. Talking about my recent loss helped me heal, and the support available makes a big difference.”

Animal therapy is also a key part of life at Invicta Court and supports the home’s dementia care programme, providing residents comfort, sensory stimulation and non-verbal connection.

Resident Pat Bisley has a lifelong love of horses but was no longer able to visit to her stables, so the home and Pat’s family arranged for her horses to come to her. Pat’s joy was clearly visible and her engagement with her beloved horses shined through during the visit.

Sara Barbosa, Home Manager at Invicta Court, said: “I’m thrilled to see our team recognised for their commitment to excellent standards of dementia care, and our ongoing mission to help residents enjoy enriching experiences that benefit their wellbeing.

“There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to dementia care. Every resident must be honoured as an individual to ensure they feel valued, included and truly at home. Our approach is led by our values, reinforced by evidence and always delivered with empathy. From animal therapy sessions to accessible sports, residents are encouraged to enjoy meaningful moments that bring comfort, connection and joy.

“Congratulations to the whole Invicta Court team who work tirelessly each day to ensure our standards remain as high as ever, and each and every resident lives a happy and fulfilling life”

Invicta Court offers a permanent residential, dementia and nursing care and short-term respite care in luxurious surroundings, ensuring that residents can lead active and fulfilling lives. The home has its very own café, hair and beauty salon, bar and cinema room, and the highly trained, professional team deliver an excellent standard of person-centred care.
